At Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC, we believe every individual deserves to feel safe, comfortable, respected, and valued in the place they call home. For individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), a supportive living environment should not feel institutional or overly restrictive. It should feel like home—a place where individuals can express themselves, make choices, develop independence, and receive the level of support they need to be successful.
A home-like environment is about much more than furniture and decorations. It is about creating an atmosphere where each individual feels a sense of belonging, dignity, stability, and personal ownership. Familiar surroundings, predictable routines, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to make everyday choices can help reduce anxiety while encouraging confidence and participation.
At Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC, our goal is to provide person-centered support that recognizes each individual’s abilities, preferences, goals, culture, communication style, and support needs. We believe individuals should be active participants in decisions affecting their lives rather than simply receiving services.
Our staff work to create environments that balance safety, accessibility, independence, personal choice, and community involvement while helping each individual work toward the goals identified in their Person-Centered Service Plan (PCSP).
Every individual should have an opportunity to make their personal space feel like their own. Individuals may choose photographs, bedding, artwork, favorite colors, decorations, collections, or other meaningful belongings that reflect their personalities and interests.
Personalization can be especially important for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities who may depend on familiar objects, routines, or surroundings for comfort and stability.
Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC encourages individuality while maintaining appropriate health and safety standards.
The environment should be comfortable while also meeting each individual's physical, developmental, and accessibility needs.
Depending on the person, accommodations may include accessible furniture, clear walkways, visual reminders, adaptive equipment, sensory-friendly spaces, picture schedules, communication devices, or other individualized supports.
The goal is not simply to complete tasks for an individual but to create an environment that gives the person opportunities to participate and become as independent as possible.
Individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities may experience sounds, lights, textures, smells, crowds, or other sensory experiences differently.
Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC recognizes the importance of understanding each person's sensory preferences and needs. Whenever appropriate, the environment can be adjusted through softer lighting, reduced unnecessary noise, comfortable textures, quiet spaces, preferred music, or other individualized sensory supports.
Staff should recognize when an individual may be becoming overstimulated and respond calmly, respectfully, and according to the person's individualized support plan.
Shared spaces should encourage individuals to relax, socialize, participate in activities, and build positive relationships.
Living rooms, dining areas, kitchens, patios, and other common areas should feel welcoming rather than institutional. Individuals should have opportunities to participate in ordinary household activities such as preparing meals, choosing television programs, decorating for holidays, playing games, completing household responsibilities, and spending time with others.
These everyday experiences can provide valuable opportunities to strengthen communication, social, decision-making, and independent living skills.
A true home is a place where people have choices.
Whenever possible and consistent with an individual's PCSP, health, safety, and rights, individuals should have opportunities to make decisions about their daily lives. This may include choosing what to wear, what to eat, how to decorate their personal space, what activities they participate in, how they spend their free time, and which community activities interest them.
Staff members should provide assistance when needed without unnecessarily taking control away from the individual.
At Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC, we believe that support should encourage independence—not replace it.
A person's home should be connected to the community around them.
Individuals should have meaningful opportunities to participate in community activities based on their interests, abilities, preferences, and goals. Activities may include shopping, dining out, attending sporting events, visiting parks, participating in recreational activities, volunteering, attending community events, exploring employment opportunities, or developing hobbies.
Community participation can help individuals develop confidence, social skills, independence, relationships, and a greater sense of belonging.
Consistency can be especially important for some individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Predictable routines may help individuals understand expectations, prepare for transitions, and feel more comfortable throughout the day. However, routines should remain person-centered rather than staff-centered.
Individuals should be encouraged to participate in developing routines that work for them. Staff can provide reminders, visual schedules, verbal prompts, modeling, hands-on assistance, or other appropriate supports based on the individual's needs.
At Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC, we understand that no two individuals are exactly alike. Two people with the same diagnosis may have completely different strengths, personalities, communication styles, behaviors, interests, goals, and support needs.
For this reason, a one-size-fits-all approach does not represent quality developmental disability services.
Services should be based on the individual's assessed needs and Person-Centered Service Plan (PCSP). Staff should take time to understand the whole person rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis or disability.
Important considerations may include:
Staff should provide the appropriate level of assistance while encouraging individuals to perform tasks independently whenever they are able.
For example, instead of automatically preparing an individual's entire meal, staff may support the person with selecting a recipe, making a grocery list, shopping for ingredients, measuring items, preparing the meal, and cleaning the kitchen.
These everyday activities can become opportunities to develop independence and confidence.
Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC recognizes that individuals with I/DD may require different types and levels of support.
Some individuals may require minimal assistance with daily living skills, while others may require more extensive support. Services should be flexible enough to respond to the individual's changing needs while continuing to respect their dignity, rights, preferences, and abilities.
Support may include assistance with:
The purpose of support is to help individuals live meaningful lives while developing and maintaining the greatest possible level of independence.
Creating a supportive environment goes beyond the walls of a residence. Family relationships, friendships, natural supports, and community connections can be important parts of an individual's quality of life.
When appropriate and desired by the individual, Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC encourages positive family involvement and communication.
Family members and other important people may provide valuable information regarding an individual's history, communication style, preferences, routines, strengths, and needs. However, the individual's preferences, rights, choices, and PCSP remain central to service delivery.
Opportunities for connection may include family visits, celebrations, community activities, recreational outings, virtual communication, cultural events, and participation in important traditions.
Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC may also encourage community involvement through relationships and activities involving local businesses, recreational programs, educational opportunities, volunteer organizations, employers, and other community resources.
Our goal is not simply to help individuals live in the community. We want to support them in becoming active and valued members of their community.
Our services are designed to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who may need assistance developing or maintaining independence in their homes and communities. The specific services provided are determined according to the individual's assessed needs, eligibility, preferences, and Person-Centered Service Plan.
Person-centered care means that services are built around the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit into a predetermined program.
The individual's strengths, preferences, goals, needs, culture, communication style, and personal choices are considered when determining how supports are provided.

Families may participate in appropriate planning discussions, visits, celebrations, and other activities while maintaining respect for the individual's privacy, independence, and choices.
Services are individualized according to the person's assessments and PCSP. Staff should understand the individual's goals, support needs, communication preferences, risks, abilities, and personal preferences.
Services and strategies should also be reviewed and adjusted when an individual's needs or circumstances change.
At Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC, we believe a disability should never prevent an individual from experiencing dignity, choice, meaningful relationships, independence, and a true sense of home.
A home-like environment is not created by furniture alone. It is created when an individual feels safe, heard, respected, included, and valued.
It is created when staff ask instead of assume.
It is created when individuals are encouraged to make choices.
It is created when someone is given the opportunity to learn a skill instead of automatically having the task completed for them.
It is created when personal preferences are respected and accomplishments—both large and small—are recognized.
Through person-centered planning, individualized support, community integration, family involvement, skill development, and compassionate care, Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC strives to create an environment where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can grow and thrive.
Our commitment extends beyond providing services. We are committed to helping each individual build confidence, strengthen independence, develop meaningful relationships, participate in their community, and pursue the life they choose.
At Heartz 2 Heart Developmental Living LLC, we don't just provide support—we help create a place where every individual can feel at home, live with dignity, and be supported from the heart.
